The video above is part of an interview I had with Noel Cruz who repainted a Farrah Fawcett doll for MyFarrah.com. I met with him yesterday, January 14th in Anaheim. We discussed everything from his technique, school, experiences growing up, to meeting Lindsay Wagner and coming full circle as an artist.

At first glance you might think you are looking at an actual photo of Farrah Fawcett. That is just how good Noel Cruz is as a painter. His three dimensional canvas, in this case, is the original Mattel version of Fawcett. The sculpt was “right on” for the shape and face of Fawcett however the machine paint was not. Cruz is currently at work on Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd for a bid (on those four Charlie’s Angels) to benefit Cancer. Cruz hasn’t just created a few images but over five hundred specialized repaints. He is not only a talented painter but is also an avid Sketch Artist and also specializes in pencil sketching you would swear were photographs. Sitting and talking with Noel, you will find that he is extremely skilled at capturing the essence of an individual down to the slightest hair and style on the dolls head. He manipulates those tresses with water and toothpicks. His capability to capture an individual is as exacting in skill as is the depth of his talent.

Lohan follows Fawcett's bunny ears

EVERYONE knows that Lindsay Lohan has form, but thanks to her new, lavish pictorial spread for Playboy, she can really show it off. Once again the big daddy of all men's magazines has come to the aid of an actress whose career is in a slump. Lohan, 24, reportedly earned $1 million from the Playboy shoot, reminiscent of the famous 1949 nude calendar spread of Marilyn Monroe by photographer Tom Kelley. The late actress appeared in the first edition of Playboy in 1953. Lohan could really use the money, which is why she probably agreed to the nude shoot in the first place.

Apart from Playboy, last week Lohan made another special guest appearance, this time in the Los Angeles Superior Court for a review of the first month of a court-ordered, five-month community service sentence at the city's morgue, where she must work at least 12 days a month. She also has to complete four therapy sessions. The good news is that this time she actually pleased the judge by being ahead of schedule on her stints. Trouble follows Lohan, however, with reports that she had $10,000 stolen from her handbag during a recent holiday in Hawaii. It's unclear why she felt the need to carry so much cash in the first place.

With her Playboy cover spread already leaked in the media, the magazine opted for an earlier release date for the January issue - it was on news stands last Friday. While there is a certain shock value in seeing the bisexual and faintly grungy Lohan with cherry red Marilyn Monroe lips and heavy, fake lashes, the spread does highlight her tiny frame. It's far too early to tell whether sales of the issue will outdo earlier stars' outings.

The original Charlie's Angels gal, the late Farrah Fawcett, refused to pose nude for Playboy throughout the 1970s and 1980s when she was at the height of her career, but caused a sensation when she posed nude in the December 1995 issue. The issue went on to become the bestseller of the 1990s, with more then four million copies sold worldwide.

When she was 50, Farrah Fawcett posed again for the July 1997 Playboy. It also became a bestseller.

Other names who have bared all in the magazine include Pamela Anderson (February 1999), Sharon Stone (December 1992), a very saucy Drew Barrymore (January 1995) and Australian stars Kym Wilson (April 1999) and Dannii Minogue (October 1995), who posed at the age of 23. Let's hopes that some of that Playboy magic works for Lindsay Lohan and reignites her acting career.

Fawcett's Condo Sold

The Wilshire corridor condominium owned by the late actress Farrah Fawcett has sold for $1.55 million. The 2,767-square-foot unit in the Wilshire building features a direct-access elevator, a master suite with three walk-in closets, an office that can be converted to a third bedroom and 21/2 bathrooms.

The 97-unit building was constructed in 1991. It features concierge service, valet parking, 24-hour security, wine storage lockers, a gym and a swimming pool.

Fawcett, one of the original "Charlie's Angels" (1976-80), died in 2009 at 62. Her work included starring roles in the TV movies "The Burning Bed" (1984) and "Nazi Hunter: The Beate Klarsfeld Story" (1986).

The condo came on the market this spring priced at $1,885,000.

Spencer Krull of Teles Properties, Beverly Hills, was the listing agent. Erika Kita of Keller Williams Realty in Beverly Hills represented the buyer.

When a then 29-year-old Farrah Fawcett made her debut on the popular 1970s television series “Charlie’s Angels” as a sexy female detective, she not only transformed gender roles in Hollywood, but ignited a tress revolution. During a decade where the shag, Afro and bouffant were most requested in hair salons, Fawcett’s feathered waves were quite refreshing -- adding a new meaning to femininity.

“It changed the way women wore their hair because it was a new soft hairstyle and worked on everyone in some shape or form,” according to celebrity stylist Ted Gibson, who has styled Anne Hathaway, Angelina Jolie, Zoe Saldana, Ashley Greene, as well as, Fawcett. “It was definitely a time of the late ‘70s, disco, shiny, wide legged pants -- it all worked together.”

While the Texas-born beauty was blessed with a gorgeous mane, it was Santa Monica hairdresser Allen Edwards’ scissors that created the perfect haircut for Fawcett.

"The layers around the face are shorter. What made it different was that it wasn't full on top. It was flatter, and the 'Farrah' part was the edges, which went flipping back," Edwards told Stylelist in an August 2009 interview. "She had a very strong, squarish jaw, and with her hair long cut [and] moving away from her face, it took your eye away from it."

We’ve seen Fawcett’s famous fluffy hairdo worn recently by blond babes like Blake Lively, Jessica Simpson, Beyonce and of course, Paris Hilton. And while technology and technique has advanced since Edwards’ “curl, pin, curl, pin” method, the basics remain the same.

“To create this particular hairstyle, you need a good hairspray to hold it in place, but still be able to move like Beautiful Hold Hairspray,” says Gibson.”Use a large barrel curling iron in one inch sections away from the face to achieve a modern interpretation of her look. A center part is most important as well. Blow-dry bangs using a flat brush and apply Tame It Shine Lotion for added smoothness. Separate the bangs into a soft fringe using your fingertips to bring out your eyes.”

Gibson’s pro trick to maintaining lots of volume without relying on heat styling tools: Before you go to sleep, twist your hair into a top knot. This will preserve your blow-out and also help to retain the curl formation.

Just over two years since Farrah Fawcett’s death from cancer at the age of 62, two reminders of happier moments in her life and career are appearing, and both are related to the iconic Bruce McBroom poster that helped launch not just Fawcett’s career but also the feathered hairstyle that defined a generation.

Mattel’s Barbie Collector Farrah Fawcett doll, a three-dimensional rendition of the poster -- right down to the one-piece red bathing suit, gold necklace and striped beach blanket -- is now available. (In November the doll’s prototype sold in 20 minutes for $1,500.) And joining the Smithsonian’s “National Treasures of Popular Culture” permanent exhibition this summer is the self-same red swimsuit donated in February by Fawcett’s longtime romantic partner Ryan O’Neal.

Alana Stewart, who was Fawcett’s close friend for more than 30 years and is the president of the Farrah Fawcett Foundation, says she always asks herself, “What would Farrah do?” She thinks her late friend would approve. The poster, Stewart says, represents “a sexy, all-American beauty; there is an innocence to it.”

Stewart believes that these reminders of the former “Charlie’s Angels” star will draw attention to the foundation Fawcett started two years before her death. “When we were in Germany [for treatments], Farrah told me she was glad she got cancer, because now she could make a difference,” Stewart said. The foundation, which is private, funds many nonprofit organizations, including some that do research in cutting-edge treatments and others that provide patient assistance programs.

The foundation receives a royalty, which it would not disclose, from each Farrah Barbie sold. Stewart says there are plans for more projects that will carry on Fawcett’s legacy.

UCLA hospitals to pay $865,500 for breaches of celebrities' privacy

UCLA Health System has agreed to pay $865,500 as part of a settlement with federal regulators announced Thursday after two celebrity patients alleged that hospital employees broke the law and reviewed their medical records without authorization.

Federal and hospital officials declined to identify the celebrities involved. The complaints cover 2005 to 2009, a time during which hospital employees were repeatedly caught and fired for peeping at the medical records of dozens of celebrities, including Britney Spears, Farrah Fawcett and then-California First Lady Maria Shriver.

Violations allegedly occurred at all three UCLA Health System hospitals — Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital and Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, according to UCLA spokeswoman Dale Tate.

The security breaches were first reported in The Times in 2008.

The violations led state legislators to pass a law imposing escalating fines on hospitals for patient privacy lapses.

After the law took effect on Jan. 1, 2009, state regulators fined Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center $95,000 in connection with privacy breaches that year that sources said involved the medical records of Michael Jackson, who was taken to the hospital after his death in June 2009.

The same month, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office for Civil Rights began investigating alleged violations of the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act at the hospitals, according to the settlement agreement.

Investigators found that UCLA employees examined private electronic records "repeatedly and without a permissible reason" in 2005 and 2008, including an employee in the nursing director's office, according to the agreement reached Wednesday.

The employee was not named in the agreement, and the hospital spokeswoman declined to identify who it was. But the timing and description of the alleged violations cited in the agreement suggest that it may have been Lawanda Jackson, an administrative specialist at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center who was fired in 2007 after she was caught accessing Farrah Fawcett's medical records and allegedly selling information to the National Enquirer.

Jackson later pleaded guilty to a felony charge of violating federal medical privacy laws for commercial purposes but died of cancer before she could be sentenced. Fawcett died of cancer in 2009.

Federal investigators faulted the hospital system for failing to remedy the problems, discipline or retrain staff.

"Employees must clearly understand that casual review for personal interest of patients' protected health information is unacceptable and against the law," Georgina Verdugo, director of the Office for Civil Rights, said in a statement Thursday, adding that healthcare facilities "will be held accountable for employees who access protected health information to satisfy their own personal curiosity."

As a condition of the settlement, UCLA Health System was required to submit a plan to federal regulators detailing how officials would prevent future breaches. They agreed to retrain staff on privacy protections, formulate privacy policies, appoint a monitor to oversee improvements and report to regulators for the next three years.

UCLA Health System released a statement Thursday noting that, "Over the past three years, we have worked diligently to strengthen our staff training, implement enhanced data security systems and increase our auditing capabilities."

"Our patients' health, privacy and well-being are of paramount importance to us," said Dr. David T. Feinberg, chief executive of the UCLA Hospital System. "We appreciate the involvement and recommendations made by OCR in this matter and will fully comply with the plan of correction it has formulated. We remain vigilant and proactive to ensure that our patients' rights continue to be protected at all times."

Tate said the money would be paid to federal health regulators.

THE actress Farrah Fawcett was under full-time nurse supervision at her high-rise condominium on Wilshire Boulevard’s Golden Mile, floating in and out of consciousness, when NBC made its demand. The network had bid $1.5 million for a cinéma vérité-style film Ms. Fawcett was making of her struggle with late-stage cancer, and with the gossip media buzzing about her imminent death, NBC was eager to get the show on television for the upcoming May sweeps rating competition. “I do have to get this show on the air,” a network executive wrote to Craig Nevius, Ms. Fawcett’s production partner. “And I think you do, too.”

But Ms. Fawcett was too sick to approve a final version of the documentary, and Mr. Nevius was reluctant to move forward without her. “I must honor my duty to her intent and her vision,” he wrote back. NBC ultimately got what it wanted, but only after the actor Ryan O’Neal, Ms. Fawcett’s on-again-off-again boyfriend of more than 30 years, engineered a takeover of the project from Mr. Nevius.

Received as a seminal moment in television history when it was broadcast in May 2009 — making Ms. Fawcett “the first American celebrity to film herself dying,” The New York Post wrote — the film was complimented by reviewers for its candor, but was also called “sometimes almost unbearable” and “exploitative.” If the documentary was a wrenching drama, the off-camera takeover itself was operatic, with threats of violence and a death-bed transfer of legal rights, leading to courthouse wrangling that pitted wealthy powerful Hollywood fixtures against Mr. Nevius, a prodigy screenwriter turned producer who never quite broke into the big time.

The struggle surrounding the film, pieced together through interviews, e-mails and warring lawsuits settled a few weeks ago, reveals a chaotic final chapter in the life of an American icon — and a particularly indelicate entertainment industry moment, even by the standards of the reality TV era. By selling her “video diary” to NBC, Ms. Fawcett turned her illness into the ultimate real-life programming for an ever-more voyeuristic audience. She intertwined her wishes for her story with the interests of a network fighting for footing in the television ratings race.

“She chose to film this and turn it into a TV show,” said Doug Vaughan, the NBC executive who oversaw the project. “It was their idea to do this.” But Ms. Fawcett had intended the film to address shortcomings she saw in American cancer treatment and to present it in art-house style. She would reference François Truffaut when talking about her vision. After Mr. O’Neal and NBC gained full control of the documentary, the film took on the feel of network celebrity fodder — at once more glossy and more morbid.

“It was a contradiction of what the film was supposed to be,” said Mr. Nevius, who had become Ms. Fawcett’s part-agent, part-manager, part-producer — and a full-time devotee. Over Mr. Nevius’s objections, the film, originally titled “A Wing and a Prayer,” was renamed “Farrah’s Story,” echoing the 1970 film “Love Story,” in which Mr. O’Neal played a husband devoted to his terminally ill wife. (“ ‘Love Story’ was one of the most viewed movies of all time,” Mr. O’Neal said in an interview. “What’s his problem?”)

Mr. O’Neal became the leading man in “Farrah’s Story” as well, professing his love with only a hint of the tumult that marked their relationship. Many scenes addressing the American medical system were scrapped or truncated. The new version included a more robust homage to Ms. Fawcett’s career as well as fresh, raw scenes, including footage of Redmond O’Neal, the couple’s son, saying goodbye to his mother. Temporarily released from jail where he was being held on drug charges, he arrived in a prison uniform and leg shackles and climbed into her bed as she lay nearly comatose. “Get real close to her,” Mr. O’Neal directed his son as the camera zoomed in.

Fawcett Photographer Recalls an Iconic Shoot

McBroom, a photographer, snapped the image that made Farrah Fawcett an icon. He tells TIME how an innocuous photo shoot — in which Fawcett posed at her Hollywood home in a red swimsuit — resulted in the 1976 poster that wound up plastered on millions of bedroom walls. Farrah was a good friend. She was from Texas, and when I met her, she still had her little Texas accent. She was just beautiful in a really innocent way. She had no idea that she was that good-looking. At the time, I was shooting stills for ABC. I became friends with her through Lee Majors from The Six Million Dollar Man, whom she was dating. I did some headshots for her and was sent by Fox to shoot photographs for the pilot of Charlie's Angels. A few months later I got a call from a guy in Cleveland, who said, "Farrah insisted I call you." He had solicited all the Angels to do a poster in a bikini, which he would sell and give the star a percentage of the profits. My understanding is that the other two turned him down. Farrah had made a deal in which she had control of the image — she got to pick the picture and kill everything that wasn't used — and this guy said, "I've hired two photographers, had two photo shoots, spent all this money, and she hates the pictures. She said, 'Call Bruce McBroom.' "Like any photo shoot, we did a lot of different stuff. But it was just Farrah and myself. It was before the days where you had to have stylists and hair and makeup and background art directors and assistants. It was just me and Farrah and my Nikon, at the home she shared with Lee Majors, a house on Mulholland Drive overlooking Hollywood, with a beautiful view. Farrah didn't like the way she looked in a bikini and didn't have one on her. So she would go in the house and come out in a swimsuit and say, "What do you think of this?" Any photographer will tell you that when you're given an assignment, it's like going fishing — you know when you got the pictures, and you know when you missed them. I shot rolls of film, and it just wasn't happening. She's a beautiful woman, but there wasn't anything that I would put on a poster. I just didn't feel it. By now we're running out of backgrounds — we used the swimming pool, etc. I said, "Farrah, are you sure you don't have a bikini? Something different?"

She went in to look around and came out of the back door and stood in the doorway in this red suit, and she said in her Southern accent, "Well, is this anything?" And I literally said to myself, "Oh my God." I knew that was it. I had an Indian blanket from Mexico that served as the seat cover for my beat-up 1937 Chevy pickup with colors that, it just popped into my head, would match the suit. I'd like to make it sound like it was all planned. But it was a spontaneous, happy intersection of coincidence. I didn't do anything. I just put her in a spot and asked her to turn it on. When I saw the film processed, I knew we'd gotten it — somewhere in these 36 frames, there's a poster. I went back over to her house, and I showed her all the pictures. She told me later that she had picked out her top two favorites and marked them on the slides. I've since heard that when the guy in Cleveland got the pictures, he went, "First of all, where's the bikini?" He told me he wasn't ever gonna pay me, because he hated the pictures. But I guess he showed them around to people in his business and they changed his mind. It was Farrah's pose, Farrah's suit, Farrah's idea. She picked that shot. She made a lot of money for him and for herself, and made me semifamous. Why it was so iconic I don't know. If you think back, no one knew who Farrah Fawcett was. Charlie's Angels didn't come out until six months later. But this poster came out and sold millions of copies at, I think, $3 a pop. I think the reason it was such a success is that Farrah had such a fresh face. She was the girl next door. So if you were a teenager, you could bring this in the house and put it up in your room — as long as Mom didn't look too closely. Once her poster became such an overnight success, the other actresses from Charlie's Angels contacted the guy and wanted to do posters too. There were many that followed. And none of them came close.

Remember the iconic red bathing suit Farrah Fawcett wore on the best-selling 1976 poster that every teenage boy had on his bedroom wall (and every adult male had in his garage or basement)? Fawcett's long-time boyfriend Ryan O'Neal donated that bathing suit plus other items belonging to the Charlie's Angel to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. In honor of what would have been Farrah Fawcett's 64th birthday, Ryan O’Neal is donating an original copy of the poster, Fawcett's original swimsuit, and various "Charlie's Angels" memorabilia. Farrah Fawcett was born on February 2, 1947. She passed away on June 25, 2009 at the age of 62, after a battle with anal cancer. The story behind the famous photo is an interesting one. Farrah Fawcett was an unknown actress at the time. When she posed for the picture, she tried on a variety of swimsuits before choosing the red one-piece. The bathing suit was from her own personal collection, and she chose it to hide a scar on her stomach.

Having grown up with the explosion that was the MANE event of the seventies, i.e. FAWCETT and having built a site in homage to her years ago (that site traffic encompasses countries all over the world on a daily basis) it’s only fitting that FEBRUARY (as her birth month) pay tribute to her. I had a great deal of fun creating the banners, specifically flipping her name backward so the two “f’s” line up. I’ve never seen that done before and it looks really cool… here are some of the banners I created with a play on that as well as the front, which will more than likely change before it’s debut.

I received my LIFE “Remembering Farrah,” this past week. It’s not the greatest tribute nor is it the worst. There is one major mistake the Photo credit on page 11 is not a photo taking during the filming of THE BURNING BED it is actually a photo taken during the filming of SMALL SACRIFICES. The Rose tattoo was something her character had done (as Diane Downs) in tribute to her love of another man, Lou played by Ryan O’Neal. It is a simplistic tribute and not much attention or detail is given other than the simplistic and easy. Unfortunate though it may be I expected a little more from LIFE.

The late Farrah Fawcett donated a substantial amount of money to facilitate the creation of a cancer charity.

Farrah Fawcett donated over $3.3-million to set up her cancer charity. Documents filed with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) show the late actress – who passed away aged 62 in June 2009 – bequeathed two separate contributions of $3,269,169 and $50,000 to the Farrah Fawcett Foundation, which she set up while battling anal cancer.

According to RadarOnline.com, actor Harrison Ford was one of the first people to donate to the charity, handing over a personal cheque for $5,000. Financial records show the foundation donated $85,000 to two charities last year, The Angeles Clinic Foundation and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The documents reveal the foundation is currently worth at least $5 million.
Following her death, it was revealed Farrah had left the bulk of her $10 million savings to troubled son Redmond O’Neal, 24, while her long-term partner Ryan O’Neal was excluded from her will completely. In June, Farrah’s friends and family – including Ryan, Redmond, Ryan's daughter Tatum O'Neal and best friend Alana Stewart – gathered at the new offices of the Farrah Fawcett Foundation, and pledged to continue the work started by the late star.

Alana said: “If I can help carry on Farrah's mission for the foundation, it's an honour for me. FAWCETT, 92 passed away at his home August 23, 2010.He was preceded in death by his wife Pauline Fawcett, daughters Diane Walls, and Farrah Fawcett, grandson Jeff Walls.He is survived by his wife Rosenda Sofia Fawcett, sister Marylene Davis and brother Darryl Fawcett, grandsons Gregg Walls, and Redman O'Neal.Services will be held Friday, August 27, 2010 at 10:00 am in the chapel of Brookside Champions Funeral Home. Alana Stewart, longtime Farrah Fawcett pal, finds it hard to talk about the star without getting emotional. "I'll get very teary and miss her, but I feel her spirit is so strong, I feel like she went to a place where she's free, she's happy, and I feel she's looking over all of us."
She tells Entertainment Tonight that she thinks a big part of the star's legacy will be the Farrah Fawcett Foundation. Farrah created it several years ago, but was too busy battling cancer to devote much time to it. Now, says Stewart, "we're officially opening the offices on Friday, the one-year anniversary of her passing. I think it's very fitting. I think it's what she would have wanted."

The mission of the Farrah Fawcett Foundation is to provide funding for alternative methods of cancer research, clinical trials, prevention and awareness.

UCLA is fined $95,000 for violating patient privacy

Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center has been fined $95,000 by state officials for failing to prevent unauthorized employees from accessing patient information, the latest in a series of privacy breaches at the prestigious hospital that has struggled to protect the medical information of its celebrity patients.

The fine, one of five privacy-related penalties announced by the state Thursday, is tied to multiple violations of the same patient's records and led to the firing of two employees. Two other people who accessed the patient's information were contracted by a firm that works at the hospital, UCLA officials said.

The breaches began June 30 of last year, five days after the deaths of Michael Jackson, who died at the hospital, and Farrah Fawcett, a former patient who had previously had her UCLA medical files breached. The state report identified the person whose records were improperly viewed as a "deceased patient."

UCLA spokeswoman Dale Tate declined to identify the patient involved or whether the patient was a celebrity.

In a statement, UCLA officials said they had made a "determined effort to train and test ... employees on patient privacy laws and implemented a wide range of safeguards to ensure patient confidentiality" over the last three years.

"We are proud of the progress we have made," the statement said, noting that UCLA officials reported the breaches to the state once they learned of the problems. "However, the UCLA Health System continues its commitment to seek ways to improve and enhance our policies, procedures and infrastructures to ensure the confidentiality of our patients' medical records."

The hospital reported the first breach to the state Aug 5, after a medical school employee and an employee in the Department of Pathology and Medical Support Services were found to have accessed the patient's records two days before. The medical school employee had even printed labels for laboratory tests that had been performed on the patient, according to the report.

Neither had any reason to access the records, the report said.

On Sept. 7, hospital officials reported that they had discovered a second breach of the same patient's records by two additional employees, both contract workers with the hospital's pathology billing service, according to the report. One accessed the patient's records on June 30 and July 9, the other only on July 9, the hospital reported.

In an interview with state investigators, hospital staff said they had spoken with the contract employees after the breach was discovered and that they "admitted inappropriate access, they were curious."

The fines issued Thursday came under a state law enacted in 2008 after widely publicized violations of patient privacy at UCLA involving Fawcett, singer Britney Spears, California First Lady Maria Shriver and other celebrities.

The issue of unauthorized people looking at the electronic records of celebrities has vexed the state. In 2009, California health regulators issued the first penalty under the privacy law, fining Kaiser Permanente's Bellflower hospital $437,500 for failing to prevent employees from snooping in the medical records of Nadya Suleman after she gave birth to octuplets.

Cheryl and Jaclyn were handed the pop culture award after Ryan O’Neal introduced a Farrah who died last year.

USA Today reports that Jaclyn and Cheryl recalled when their show was a phenomenon in the 1970s.
“We were rock stars,” Jaclyn said.

Added Cheryl: “We had to sneak in the back doors of restaurants.”

The two were happy to receive the award acknowledgment, but Smith said it was “bittersweet, because we’re missing a lot of members of our family.” They include not only Farrah but John Forsythe, the voice of Charlie, who passed away earlier this month.

“It was so beautiful,” Cheryl said of the Farrah tribute.

“And well-deserved,” continued Smith, noting her omission from the Academy Awards’ recap of the year’s deaths. “It was sad she was left out at the Oscars, but certainly tonight she wasn’t. … You can see the distance her career went and how accomplished she became. And along with it, she was an interesting person, a good person to know, a good person to have on your side. I miss her.”

Cheryl and Jaclyn were members of the show’s cast for four and five years, respectively – longer than any of the other cast members including Farrah (1 full season plus three episodes in seasons 3 and 4), Kate Jackson (3 seasons), Shelly Hack (1 season) and Tanya Roberts (1 season).

They not only were the backbone of the show for most of its run, they are also two very lovely ladies who have conducted themselves with such grace and class over the years.

The gala will be aired on TV Land on Sunday, April 25.

Farrah Fawcett secretly planned to reunite with ex-husband Lee Majors on stage in Las Vegas in the final years before her death, RadarOnline.com has confirmed exclusively.

In a secret the Charlie's Angels star took to her grave, she and Majors, best known for his role in The Six Million Dollar Man, had agreed to end their two decades of estrangement in the most spectacular and public circumstance.Majors, through his management, confirmed to RadarOnline.com the pair had been booked to recreate A.R. Gurney's famous play Love Letters, a drama about two lovers who spend a lifetime trying to get together.

But Fawcett's cancer recurrence in May 2007 sidelined the project permanently.Majors' manager Denny Bond said the two, who married in 1973 and separated just six years later, had engaged he and Craig Nevius, the filmmaker now being sued by Fawcett's estate, to produce and direct the stage show.

"For a period of months Craig Nevius and I worked with several bookers for Lee Majors and Farrah Fawcett to go on the road with Love Letters," Bond told RadarOnline.com.

"We had many discussions with Lee and Farrah and we had planned on a Las Vegas opening and doing a Los Angeles charity performance for her soon to be established cancer foundation as the kick-off to the tour," Bond added.Fawcett and Majors married at the height of their fame; she with Charlies Angels and he with The Six Million Dollar Man. After divorcing, Fawcett entered an on-again, off-again long-term relationship with Ryan O'Neal.

She didn't speak with Majors again until 2006, at the time she was diagnosed with anal cancer. He made contact with Fawcett, according to reports at the time of her death.

According to one source, when UCLA declared Fawcett cancer free, she was excited to go back to work."

She thought she could combine it with a quest to raise money for cancer research," the confidant told RadarOnline.com.

The project would have utilized pictures and home movies of Fawcett and Majors through the years, added the source.

The last time Fawcett and Majors had worked together was in the pilot episode of his 80s series The Fall Guy, in which the actress made a cameo as herself.Nevius, who is embroiled in a bitter legal stoush with Fawcett's estate and is also suing her ex O'Neal, confirmed his involvement."

Love Letters was the perfect stage play for the two of them. Lee would have played a conservative, no-nonsense politician who had been in love with his childhood sweetheart for decades," explained Nevius."Farrah would have played his childhood sweetheart who grew up to be an eccentric, free-spirited artist.

In fact, we were planning on using Farrah’s real art in the production."Farrah had a lot of ideas. She was excited about the whole thing. So was Lee.

“I’m sorry the two of them never got to work together again. But I am glad Farrah and Lee re-connected, in real life. "That was important. I know it was to Farrah.”

Why does it make so many angry? First, it was a deliberate choice to exclude Farrah from the memorial telecast. Fawcett made over fourteen films for theatrical distribution in ADDITION to all the films she made for television. She was also a voting member of the academy for over thirty years and a member for forty years. She, along with Ryan O-Neal, presented at the Oscars. Fawcett was nominated for a Golden Globe for Extremities and an Independent Spirit Award for her role in The Apostle.

Farrah Fawcett fought against the “type casting” that plagued her early career. She fought for and brought about roles for herself that helped her grow and stretch as an actress. She could have complacently coasted throughout the entire run of Charlie’s Angels and been satisfied with cameos and “giggle/jiggle” guest spots and lived an extremely wealthy and easy life. She didn’t.

She made deliberate choices that left people scratching their heads and wondering, “What is she thinking?”

Fawcett rose to fame in an age when internet didn’t exist. Before VCRs and plastic surgery was the rage for up and coming starlets, Fawcett defied gravity in a red bathing suit and tussled blonde hair and captured the spirit of all that was wholesome and beautiful with a thousand watts of light smile but behind that smile was a smart and determined lady who new the value of her percentages.

It was not happenstance that Fawcett left Charlie’s Angels and a deal was struck for recurring appearances. She didn’t sign her contract. Yes, Lee Majors wanted her home but it was her determination to get her cut that left that contract unsigned.

That’s not the action of someone who is simple minded.

Fast forward and you now have someone who determined via committee that Fawcett shouldn’t be in the memorial because she is a “television” actress. She was dismissed and belittled (as if being just a television actor is beneath the academy, where did George Clooney get his start?) and it was decided that she wouldn’t be included.

It was not only callous and uncontainable, it was wrong.

Fawcett fought her way onto the silver screen and she fought for her place in the Academy as an actor. She deserved to be recognized for her strengths as an artist alongside her peers. She did not deserve to be omitted especially by conscious choice.

It would be easier to understand if it were an oversight but the deliberation and decisive statements made by the Academy show a level of self inflated superiority that leave a bad taste long after the words have been read and processed.

The executive director of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has apologized to the friends, family and fans of Farrah Fawcett, who was conspicuously omitted from Sunday night's Oscar-event tribute to Hollywood personalities who had died over the past year.
While some agents and publicists, besides actors, were included in the memorial, Fawcett, a high-profile star better known for her TV work (who also appeared on the big screen), was not.
Neither was Gene Barry -- who was seen in both versions of "War of the Worlds" -- or Bea Arthur.

Among those criticizing the Academy for its selective omissions were critic Roger Ebert and Oscar-winner Jane Fonda.

In response, the Academy's Bruce Davis, who was responsible for the "in memoriam" segment (and has been since the tradition began in 1993), said late Tuesday: "There's nothing you can say to people, particularly to family members, within a day or two of the show that helps at all. They tend to be surprised and hurt, and we understand that and we're sorry for it."

Davis, who also says he stands by the decision about Fawcett's absence, had considered including her, but ultimately felt her "remarkable television work" would be more appropriately honored at the TV Academy's Emmys (which she was). He also noted that several notable screenwriters were not included in the tribute.

Oscar-winner Tatum O'Neal, whose father Ryan O'Neal was Fawcett's longtime companion, also issued a statement Tuesday. It said: "On behalf of myself, my father Ryan O'Neal and my entire family, we are deeply saddened that a truly beautiful and talented actress Farrah Fawcett was not included in the memorial montage during the 82nd Academy Awards. We are bereft with this exclusion of such an international icon who inspired so many for so many reasons. Beautiful, talented Farrah will never be forgotten by her family and amazing fans."

Davis defended the tribute's inclusion of Michael Jackson, who was better known for his musical accomplishment than for his screen work, because the late pop star was the subject of a successful feature documentary last year.

Although February is almost over, I never quite lose site of the fact it is the birth month of Farrah Fawcett. The original GOLDEN GIRL, Farrah was the “IT” girl before internet existed. Before hair extensions and plastic surgery was the norm, Fawcett was the All-American girl straight from Texas. Her thousand watt smile graced dorm rooms and adolescent boys and girls idolized her. Her fame was world renowned and the beautiful girl from small town Corpus Christi shot to the kind of fame publicists and Hollywood agents strive for their own clients today through media blitz tours and press releases and interview junkets. Fawcett was famous without the internet. It didn’t exist yet. VCR’s weren’t around either. She was the all natural beauty who defied the laws of gravity and she was the cover girl for everything from shampoo to a necklace, aptly called “the faucet.” Fawcett went on to prove herself a savvy business woman. She was more than the smile and hair in the poster and those closest to her knew she was smarter than most gave her credit for. Fawcett fought a valiant battle in the end. The unfortunate media onslaught and feuding hasn’t stopped, even though Fawcett is physically not with us. Her image and her famous smile will be an American Icon long after those who knew her and remember her as one of the three original Charlie’s Angels have gone on after her.

Alain Lustig has written sixteen original songs in dedication to Farrah. He pledges to donate part of the monies spent on the music to the American Cancer Society. This is a real testament to what a "fan" can do when they put their feelings to paper and words to music. It's certainly a step towards the positivity that Farrah wanted all of us to reach for.

I've been looking over the new site for the foundation. Overall, I love the color choices, the symmetry and the flow of the site in it's beginning stages. I loathe "coming soon" or "under construction." I think Alana, because I think she is making the choices here, has parlayed Farrah's tastes (and that's one hundred percent presumption on my part) into a very nicely branded and tasteful design. I absolutely love the logo. It's a combination of angel wings (very appropriate) and shaped as a heart, though not quite connected. The curved lines going outwards convey movement... which is also inspiring and a great touch...

The underlying tone could be a heart/wing in conflict or trouble. Or fighting, the 'fight the fight' of cancer or other battles that the foundation is laying the ground work to assist in the battle there of.

There are some fundamental code omissions, but the site, is still being built. I won't comment on those but suffice is to say it's a great start and I for one, hope it's a huge success and helps make Farrah's passing and her own mantra "positivity is necessity" possible.

There has been so much press and so much negativity after Fawcett's passing that I've found myself battling with what should be posted here and what shouldn't. The bottom line is Fawcett was a force as an actor/actress and it's unfortunate that so many would malign her image with the negative instead of focusing on the good that can come from what she wanted and her message, "What are you fighting for?"

Couldn't that statement be applied to much of what is going on now?

Alana Stewart was on Extra to remember Farrah's birthday and announce the launch of the foundation's website. Along with Stewart, the Advisory Board consists of Dr. Lawrence Piro, Dr. Ursula Jacob and Marianne Williamson. The Board Members are: Alana Stewart, President, Bernie Francis, Chairman of the Board/Treasurer, Shira Nachshon, Secretary and Kim Swartz, Director.

Stewart's statement on the site:
"It is my goal and commitment to carry out Farrah's wishes to the best of my ability. We spoke many times about the foundation and her vision for it, and hopefully I will be able to help that vision come to fruition, by aiding alternative research projects, and perhaps one day, find a cure for this dreadful disease."

Remembering those who died in 2009

Farrah Fawcett's death in June was eclipsed by that of Michael Jackson, who died hours later. She was the style icon for generations of women, says Sasha Wilkins, fashion journalist. The Jennifer Aniston of her day, Farrah Fawcett became the female icon of a generation. To appreciate her influence on 1970s style, pick up any family photo album from around that time. At least half the women inside will be wearing high-waisted denim flares, with a tight bra-less T-shirt crowned by "the Farrah" - a confection of sun-kissed, flicked, feathered and layered bouffant hair that looked natural, but owed its volume to a strafing of industrial quantities of hairspray.

The key to the appeal of her wholesome good looks was its unthreatening obtainability. To men she was the girl next door, the apogee of natural, unaffected beauty. To women she represented an achievable, relaxed image. In an age where the celebrity stylist was yet to make its mark, Farrah was just herself It's difficult for children that came of age in the 1990s to understand the appeal of unadorned, unmanipulated beauty. To them Charlie's Angels doesn't automatically mean Farrah and her cast mates, Jacqueline and Kate, but instead Cameron, Lucy and Drew. Where we had Farrah and her hair, they had Demi and her plastic surgery.

But the 1970s was a very different time. Until Farrah and her fellow Charlie's Angels blazed on to British television screens, female British TV icons were terribly posh: Dame Diana Rigg, Joanna Lumley, Honor Blackman. Fantasy figures, sure, but no everyday bloke honestly thought he would have stood a chance. The Angels became the popular antidote to the previously prevailing stylish but unapproachable female. No gadgets, just babes.

Charlie's Angels first appeared in 1976 as a TV movie. Farrah, along with Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith, played sassy private investigators for a detective agency run by Charles Townsend, a reclusive multi-millionaire whom the women had never met. Townsend referred to his employees as angels, a term that would never have got past the PC police in the 21st Century. The movie was so successful that a series was promptly commissioned, and TV history was made. Given the nature of our multi-media, multichannel viewing experience nowadays, it's easy to forget the vast impact of television in the 1970s.

A show like Charlie's Angels dominated the television landscape and became the cultural reference for an entire decade. It's no wonder Farrah and her cast mates became international superstars - they WERE the show. The Charlie's Angels of the 1970s is a reflection of a less sophisticated time. No technology, no CGI, no go-go-gadgets to distract the viewer from the pulchritudinous babes who carried the story. Farrah, who concealed a sharp brain and quick wit behind the pouffed-up hair, told TV Guide in a 1977 interview: "When the show was number three, I thought it was our acting. When we got to be number one, I decided it could only be because none of us wears a bra."

The real key to Farrah's resonance with men and with women was her styling. In an age where the celebrity stylist was yet to make its mark, Farrah was just herself. With her wide, ultra-white toothy grin, fluffy hair, jeans and sneakers she was the epitome of Californian wholesomeness. The open-necked, rolled sleeved gingham shirts, waisted jumpsuits and silky slip dresses looked simple and uncontrived. The hair was a different matter. Men may have been taken in by its artless bounce, but women knew better: the Farrah took time to achieve: "I'd curl, pin, curl, pin. And when it was done, I took the pins out, turned the hair upside down and brushed it out so you wouldn't have a 'set' look," her hairdresser Allen Edwards told a journalist. But it was the poster that made Farrah into a global sensation.

She was already well-known as a model before landing Charlie's Angels, and the poster, a collaboration between Fawcett and the photographer, was shot at her home before she was cast on the show. The success of Charlie's Angels sent sales of the poster into the millions. It's been estimated that it sold as many as 12 million copies, and Farrah received a royalty on each one. She was paid $5,000 (£3,123) per episode for the one season she appeared on the show, but is believed to have racked up over $400,000 (£249,801) in poster royalties. Farrah did her own make-up, wore her own swimsuit, picked out six frames from the 40 rolls of film shot on the day, marking out as her favourite the image that finally became the poster. She knew how to market herself. "The reason that the all-American boy prefers beauty to brains is that he can see better than he can think." When Farah Fawcett died this year, the dreams of the 1970s died with her.

Somewhere in the heroics at Fort Hood there's a Dallas Morning News Texan of the Year for 2009, many of our readers insist. The dedication to duty and willingness to sacrifice moved people profoundly after the mass murders on the massive Army base near Killeen on Nov. 5.

"A Texan (or Texans) who has had uncommon impact; who exemplifies Texas traits of trailblazing, independence and staring down adversity; and who has affected or influenced lives.
Readers also point to these same qualities in so many others whose names or stories are unfamiliar to many of us. And they have given us a long list of nominees to pore over for the annual Texan of the Year recognition. A few:

•Dr. Priscilla Hollander, an endocrinologist at Baylor University Medical Center, is "the reason many thyroid cancer patients are alive today," said reader Susie Harrison of Rockwall.

•Pam Cope, founder of Touch a Life Foundation of Coppell, should be recognized for rescuing "trafficked children in Saigon, child slaves in Ghana and AIDS orphans in Cambodia," said Tracy Begland of Coppell.

•Todd Henry, stabbed to death in his special education classroom at John Tyler High School, was beloved by students and "truly gave his life for education," said Craig Gibson of Tyler.
Educators are well represented in the ongoing list of nominations, ranging from "all 300,000 Texas teachers," to individual classroom stars, to principals who emerged as high-impact turnaround artists for schools that others had given up on.

Impact. It's the ultimate qualification for Texan of the Year. There's no argument that hero jetliner pilot Sully Sullenberger had it, or Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert or Gov. Rick Perry. The Perry name came up a lot in the e-mail, some of it from admirers.

One person who has no shortage of admirers is identified in these parts by just one name: Laura.
"Texan of the Year should be Laura Bush," wrote Kristina Kiik. "Through the Women's Initiative at the George W. Bush Institute and the Institute of Women's Health at Texas Tech, the former First Lady is educating and empowering women at home and abroad."

The list of single-namers goes on – Colt, Kinky, Willie, Ebby, Jerry – some having spectacular years; others, spectacular lives.

One life that ended this year in remarkable fashion was Corpus Christi native Farrah Fawcett's. Wrote Leeanne Rebic Hay of Plano: "With dignity and grace, whimsy and tears, Farrah Fawcett created a documentary on her battle with cancer in the final stage of her life. This is the write up: Farrah Fawcett - Remembered by Dash N Dazzle -- Any child of the sixties, seventies, or eighties may remember the life-size heads produced by Mattel and Mego to cater to the children who are hair stylists at heart. Farrah was The Hollywood Doll of the Seventies, and this celebrity tribute was done with a vintage Mego toy stylist head of Farrah Fawcett. Phil and David of Dash N Dazzle did an amazingly beautiful tribute to Farrah with this creation.

Late actress FARRAH FAWCETT inspired soul classic MIDNIGHT TRAIN TO GEORGIA. The tune, which was a huge hit for Gladys Knight & The Pips, was originally titled Midnight Plane to Houston until Whitney Houston’s mum Cissy rejigged it. But songwriter Jim Weatherly insists the hit will always be dedicated to Fawcett and her former husband Lee Majors in his mind. Weatherly tells Nashville Story Source he wrote the song after chatting to his pal on the phone. He says, “She said she was packing her clothes and she was gonna go back and visit her folks and she was taking the midnight plane to Houston. When she said that a little bell went off in my head. “I actually used Farrah and Lee as kind of like the people in the song… It’s just a simple little story about a girl that comes to L.A. to make it, becomes a star and everything, finds it too hard and goes back (home).”

I found this on my old backup drive. I did this on a very old Mac. I think this has to be at least 5 years old... also a charcoal drawing... scans of that...

I think the charcoal was done about 1994 or 5...

Below is a pencil drawing I did... not sure of the year on this one either.

It's actually in color but didn't scan well, so I made it black and white via PhotoShop.

This photo of Fawcett, I remember, hanging in my dorm room. There’s an old Polaroid of it somewhere. I believe it was 1981. I was a Freshman at Hastings College in Hastings, NE. I don’t think I ever thought I would get to meet Farrah at that time. I’ve started reading Alana’s book and account of her time with Fawcett. The foreword is very touching. Alan struggled with this book and her interview on the Today show (with Meredith V.) about the book is touching. Alana “get’s it” and is respectful and honest and forthright (seemingly so) about the relationship and the “why’s” of her choice and struggle throughout Farrah’s battle. In spite and despite some of the negative press circling Alana and Ryan O’Neal, the reality is: Farrah loved who she loved and in the end, I find it hard to believe or understand why she’d keep those close to her when she needed the most support of all if there wasn’t an underlying love for those around here. I’m not speculating about romantic love, just a love in general. At any rate, it’s still a little strange to think that Fawcett’s gone. Alana said she wants the book to be a tribute to friendship. I think she achieved that goal. I also, deeply, respect Alana’s choice to stop writing about Fawcett dying. That speaks volumes about the depth of her respect and love for Farrah.

I'd meant to post this earlier... I was thumbing through a major publication and a picture was shown with the caption "Farrah Fawcett." The woman photographed wasn't and isn't Farrah Fawcett. Since then I've seen photos of her on-line. Really? People can't tell the difference?

The latest issue of Vanity Fair has two covers, one featuring Fawcett the other featuring Jackson. Be sure to get a copy. It has an interesting article inside with interviews with Ryan O’Neal, Alana Stewart and others who were close to Fawcett. Also of note is the interview Griffin O’Neal gave to CNN regarding O’Neal and what his take on Ryan’s actions and what transpired throughout the relationship and even more so the night of the fiasco that was to be Fawcett’s birthday celebration. The O’Neal’s have a long and turbulent history of violence, substance abuse and difficulties that have been well documented over the years. It’s a sad reflection and focus after the passing of Fawcett. On a personal note, I wish they could’ve left Fawcett’s last moments to herself and between those in the room that experienced them. I think it’s poor form to relay and share that kind of moment with anyone other than family. There’s no “right to know” here.

Nominees for the prestigious Emmy Awards were announced today, but for one it was too late to join the celebrations. Farrah Fawcett died of cancer three weeks ago, but her documentary charting her battle against the disease has been nominated in the nonfiction special category. 'It's very bittersweet. Farrah passed away three weeks ago today,' said Alana Stewart, who helped film her longtime friend for Farrah's Story. 'I know that she would be so, so happy. This was so important to her, this project. 'She's been nominated before, and I just know that this would be the most important one of all.'
